During the long weekend this month I decided to visit Bilbao and see the Guggenheim museum. I had been to the Guggenheim in Venice, but not the ones in Bilbao or New York. It was so much fun! I found a cheap hostel and stayed two nights in the city, which gave me time to wander and see the christmas market and a few museums. I got into town late and spent the night at the hostel resting. The next day I set out to explore around town. The Bilbao tram system is great! It rained most of the time I was there (typical Basque Country) but I wandered around the old town with my umbrella and got some great pictures of street art. I even found a small vegan cafe with dairy-free calzones and ice cream and fell in love. It was soooo good! I spent lots of time in several bookstores and then at the christmas market in the evening. I also went and visited the outside of the Guggenheim while the sun was out for a bit. The final day I went to the Guggenheim museum and enjoyed every minute of it. The art and architecture are just stunning and so thought provoking. I was able to get a discount with my "student" residency card and escape the rain for a while.
I don't have time to write about everything in the museum, but it really did get me thinking about so many things. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Bilbao and look forward to going back. Comments are closed.
